Energy transition of SMEs in BiH: Where are the obstacles and how to overcome them?

To what extent are SMEs in Bosnia and Herzegovina truly ready for the energy transition? What holds them back, and what motivates them to engage in this process? Are there available services and support that can help them? These and many other questions are addressed in a new study conducted as part of the DESET project (Digitally Enabled Sustainable Energy Transition of manufacturing SMEs).

The research was carried out between May 29 and June 13, 2025, gathering responses from 85 companies and 15 consulting organizations/experts. The aim of the study was to uncover the current state of energy management in manufacturing SMEs, identify key challenges, and highlight potential areas for intervention. Special attention was given to the role of digital tools and standards such as ISO 50001 and 14001 in improving energy efficiency.

The publication provides valuable insights for companies themselves, as well as for service providers, policymakers, and everyone working on the development of a sustainable and competitive private sector in BiH.
