SMEs: The backbone of the economy under pressure – Guest on INSide Market: Zdravko Miovčić

On Monday, December 29, 2025, at 9:00 PM on BHT1, the INSide Market program will feature a discussion on the challenges and opportunities for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with guest Zdravko Miovčić, Director of Eda.

SMEs make up the largest segment of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s economy and are one of the key drivers of employment. Yet, they often operate “with the handbrake on”: facing limited access to capital, complex procedures, and an increasingly acute labor shortage. At the same time, examples of companies investing in technology and building export capacity demonstrate that growth is possible — especially when there is clear, targeted support.

The conversation will address issues that concern society as a whole:

  • what is currently holding back the growth of small and medium businesses,
  • where the new opportunities for investment and employment lie,
  • how to strengthen the resilience of companies amid market disruptions,
  • what actions are needed now to build a stronger, more ambitious, and competitive economy in the coming years,
  • and what this means for young people choosing between staying and leaving.

We invite you to tune in — because the development of enterprises is not “just an issue for economists”, but something that directly impacts living standards, jobs, and the country’s future.
